About the Position:

The Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE) at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for several non-tenure track teaching positions.  These full-time positions begin in Fall 2025.  Applicants with experience or interest in teaching will be considered for a Lecturer position. Applicants with substantial industry or government experience, a terminal degree (e.g. PhD), and who possess a record of effective teaching may be considered for the position of Professor of the Practice.

A master’s or doctorate degree in computer science, or a related discipline is required. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong administrative skills. Experience in academia, industry and government will be considered. Candidates who have had a non-academic career with a demonstrated commitment to teaching are encouraged to apply and should emphasize their industry experience.

Initial appointments will be for three years and appointments are renewable.  Appointments renewals can be for a period of one to five years, depending on rank and performance. Teaching faculty teach a wide range of courses, primarily at the undergraduate level. They have administrative duties, advise students, and mentor teaching assistants. Teaching faculty are expected to continue their professional growth with opportunities for increased responsibilities. Lecturers can be promoted through the ranks of Senior Lecturer and Principal Lecturer.  Applications will be considered for all areas of specialization within computer science.

Salary. Commensurate with experience.

  • Lecturer: $88K - $94K
  • Professor of the Practice: $95K - $105K

Other components of pay are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

The CSEE Department is large and growing, with a diverse community of over 2,000 undergraduate students. Teaching faculty along with a cadre of tenure-track faculty are the driving force behind the department’s broad effort to ensure a quality education for our undergraduates, working to improve the curriculum and provide student support. To accommodate our diverse community, we offer instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online modes, with face-to-face instruction preferred.

CSEE faculty support the Center for Women in Technology (CWiT) to enable “success for all underrepresented groups, and their allies, in technology fields,” serving, for example, as faculty mentors, application readers, and interviewers.  Teaching faculty have opportunities to participate in curriculum development, assisting with the development of new courses or improving existing courses. The department has graduate programs in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, cybersecurity, and data science. Our faculty enjoy collaboration within the department, across departments, and with partners outside the university.
