About the Position: |
The Sociology Program at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor position. Ideal candidates will have a PhD in sociology or a related field, but those with a master’s degree may be considered. Candidates should have proven undergraduate teaching experience as the instructor of record. This is a one-year/two-semester appointment (Fall 2025 to Spring 2026).
The successful candidate will contribute to the core curriculum and specialized electives in the Sociology undergraduate program. Priority courses are SOCY 101 Basic Concepts in Sociology, SOCY 300 Methodology of Social Research, SOCY 409 Sociological Theory, and SOCY 201 Social Problems in American Society, as well as electives focusing on crime, law, and society, the social dimensions of health, and/or social inequality. The base annual salary for a 9-month visiting assistant teaching professor position will be $50,000 to $54,000. The teaching load is 4 undergraduate courses in the first semester and 4 courses in the second semester, with no teaching obligations during the summer and winter sessions. However, opportunities for additional summer or winter teaching may be available.
